Can aging adults benefit from owning a pet?
A new poll by the National Poll on Healthy Aging suggests so.
The poll surveyed over 2,000 adults aged 50 to 80: 88% said that their pets helped them enjoy life, 86% said that their pets made them feel loved, and 79% said that their pets reduced stress.
The poll also found that pets ease pain, make seniors more sociable, help them stick to a routine, and help them keep active.
But before you schedule a ride with Williams Mobility to your local animal shelter, consider that while pet ownership does have its benefits, a pet can be too physically demanding and expensive for some. In additional, the risk of falling is increased by having a furry friend under foot. But personally, I can’t imagine life without with my four-legged family!
